A free-spirited girl from Barbados goes to live with Puritanical relatives in Connecticut in the late 1600s. Although she tries to tone down her clothing and her approach to life in general, she cannot ignore a lonely widow whom the villagers shun because they think she is a witch. By befriending others, Kit gets herself in trouble and she is accused of being a witch.
